Mykonos Beaches Guide

A complete Mykonos beaches guide — party beaches, quiet bays and family-friendly sands, with how to get there and what each one is best for.

Mykonos Beaches: A Complete Guide

Mykonos has more than 30 beaches ringing its coastline, and no two feel the same. Some roar with electronic music and champagne service well into the night; others are little more than a strip of golden sand reached by a dirt track. This beach guide maps them all so you can decide which beach suits your style — and which to visit on which day.

Party Beaches: South Coast

Paradise Beach

Paradise is the original Mykonos party beach and still the most internationally recognised. A long sandy bay fringed by rocky outcrops, it hosts outdoor clubs that run afternoon DJ sets through to the early hours in peak season. The beach clubs here draw large, youthful crowds, and the energy on a July evening is unlike anywhere else in Greece.

Best for: Night owls, music lovers, groups of friends.

Practical note: Sunbeds fill up early. Arrive by midday if you want a good spot; expect long queues at the bar after sunset.

Super Paradise Beach

Tucked around the headland from Paradise, Super Paradise has a more contained, intimate feeling despite its outsized reputation. Super Paradise beach club has hosted major international acts and maintains a loyal following among LGBTQ+ visitors and clubbers. The water is exceptionally clear and the setting dramatic.

Best for: Clubbers, LGBTQ+ travellers, those who want party energy in a more scenic bay.

Paraga Beach

Between Psarou and Paradise, Paraga offers a middle ground: sandy and sheltered, with a beach club scene that is lively without being overwhelming. A good choice if you want sun, cocktails, and music without committing to the full party-beach intensity.

Chic Beach Clubs: The Glamorous South

Psarou — Nammos

Psarou is the most exclusive beach on the island. Fine white sand, gin-clear water, and the legendary Nammos beach restaurant make it a magnet for yachts, celebrities, and well-heeled travellers. Expect elaborate seafood platters, rosé by the bottle, and a see-and-be-seen atmosphere that peaks around lunchtime.

Best for: Luxury travellers, foodies, those who enjoy upscale people-watching.

Tip: Nammos requires reservations well in advance during high season. Walk-in sunbed access is limited.

Ornos — Principote

Ornos beach is one of the most family-friendly bays on the island, but it is also home to Principote — a stylish beach club with a more refined, low-key atmosphere than the party beaches. The sand is soft, the water calm, and it is within easy reach of Scorpios Mykonos for an evening transition.

Family and Calm Beaches

Ornos Bay

Beyond Principote, the wider Ornos bay is one of the best all-round beaches on the island. The water is shallow near the shore, making it suitable for children, and a row of tavernas along the beachfront road serves fresh grilled fish and cold drinks. It is the most convenient family beach in Mykonos and stays pleasant throughout the day even in the height of summer.

Platis Gialos

A long, broad bay of fine sand with calm, swimmable water and reliable facilities. This is where the water taxis depart for Psarou, Paraga, Paradise, and Super Paradise — making it an excellent base if you want to hop between beaches. The mood is relaxed and it remains accessible to all ages.

Agios Stefanos

On the north-west coast, close to the new port, Agios Stefanos is calm, shallow, and largely undeveloped by Mykonos standards. It works particularly well for families staying in or near Mykonos Town who want a beach without a long transfer.

Quiet and Wild: The North Coast

The north of Mykonos is a different world. Stronger winds, fewer tourists, and an untouched quality that feels a world away from the southern clubs. These are the best beaches if you are looking for a quiet beach or a genuinely sandy beach without infrastructure.

Agios Sostis

No sunbeds, no music, no bar service — and one of the most beautiful stretches of sand on the island. Agios Sostis is reached via a rough road and rewards those willing to make the journey with stunning isolation. Bring your own water, snacks, and a book.

Fokos

Even quieter than Agios Sostis, Fokos sits on the wild north-east coast and requires a proper off-road vehicle or a long walk. The beach is pebbly in places but the solitude is extraordinary. A small seasonal taverna sometimes operates here; do not count on it.

Lia

On the south-east tip of the island, Lia is the exception among quiet beaches — it has a laid-back taverna and is accessible by paved road. The water is crystal clear and deep, popular with snorkellers. It tends to attract a more bohemian crowd than the southern clubs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which is the best beach in Mykonos? There is no single best beach — it depends entirely on what you want. For atmosphere and nightlife, Paradise or Super Paradise. For glamour and dining, Psarou. For families and calm swimming, Ornos or Platis Gialos. For wild, unspoilt nature, Agios Sostis or Fokos.

Are there any quiet beaches near Mykonos Town? Agios Stefanos is the closest calm beach to Mykonos Town, reachable in around 10 minutes by bus or taxi. It is far quieter than the southern beaches and suitable for all ages.

Do I need to book sunbeds at the beach clubs in advance? At Nammos (Psarou) and some sections of Super Paradise, advance reservations are strongly recommended in July and August. At most other beaches, you can arrive and find a spot, though getting there before noon in high season is wise.
